Reactive Power Pricing in an Open Access Environment Considering Combined Optimum Voltage Profile and Voltage Stability
Authors
Abstract:
In a de-regulated open access environment, reactive power is one of the ancillary services which must be provided by an Independent System Operator (ISO). In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed in which reactive power resources are initially so tuned that optimum security in terms of voltage profile and voltage stability are achieved while at the same time, the system losses are minimized. The resulting optimization case is solved as an Extended Multi-objective Optimal Power Flow (EMOPF) problem using Lexico Graphic Method (LGM). Thereafter, using the concept of Fair Resource Allocation (FRA), the reactive powers generated are distributed among existing transactions so that the costs incurred are properly and fairly recovered. The algorithm is successfully tested on a typical power system. A New Algorithm for Optimum Voltage and Reactive Power Control for Minimizing Transmission Lines Losses
Reactive power dispatch for voltage profile modification has been of interest Abstract to powerr utilities. Usually local bus voltages can be altered by changing generator voltages, reactive shunts, ULTC transformers and SVCs. Determination of optimum values for control parameters, however, is not simple for modern power system networks. Heuristic and rather intelligent algorithms have to be so...
full textImproving Voltage Stability Margin Using Voltage Profile and Sensitivity Analysis by Neural Network
This paper presents a new approach for estimating and improving voltage stability margin from phase and magnitude profile of bus voltages using sensitivity analysis of Voltage Stability Assessment Neural Network (VSANN). Bus voltage profile contains useful information about system stability margin including the effect of load-generation, line outage and reactive power compensation so, it is ad...
full textIssues for Reactive Power and Voltage Control Pricing in a Deregulated Environment
This paper addresses issues related to reactive power, voltage support and transmission losses as dictated from a certain class of electric loads. Specifically, it addresses the impact of predominantly induction motor loads on voltage support, reactive power requirements, and transmission losses. These issues are examined with a model, which explicitly models the induction motor mechanical load...
full textOptimal Power Flow Using Cuckoo Search Considering Voltage Stability
Optimal power flow is the most complicated economical problem in power system operation. This is due to the nonlinearity of load flow equations and constraints on voltage, thermal limits and angle and voltage stability. The objective of this problem is to distribute system loads among generators with minimum cost while achieving all equality and inequality constraints. Nowadays, meta heuristic ...
full textSome Issues in Implementation of a Voltage Stability Analysis Function in an Energy Management System Environment
Over the last few years, the problem of voltage stability has received a lot of attraction from the power system community. This type of stability is now a major concern for utilities in both planning and operating conditions. Both static and dynamic aspects of the problem have been discussed and investigated by the researchers. The present paper concentrates on a Voltage Stability Analysis fun...
